Meet the Newtons: Owner Building.
Owner building is a process in which the owner manages their construction
process. As an owner builder you do not require any building skills,
though an understanding of the industry is desirable. You may elect
to subcontract all or parts of the project to skilled trades people.
In Queensland, if the value of the building work, including labour
and materials, exceeds $11,000 you must first complete a short Owner
Building Course through
TAFE.
The course does not provide any trade skills. It is designed to provide
an overview of the processes associated with economic and effective
management of the various stages of the building project.

On completion of the Owner Builder Course you will be eligible to apply
for an Owner Builder Permit from the Building Services Authority. This
is required before submitting your plans to council.
