Building Materials:
Local Availability.

Utilizing locally available products reduces transport costs and fuel consumption, and helps to sustain the local community. The Newton House is part of the local community, and support to and from this community is essential for the sustainability of both.

Materials that are recycled or manufactured in the local area have been sourced for the Newton House. Most of the building timber is from a local demolition yard located 8 km away at Beenleigh. These timbers are sourced from local properties. The age of these timbers and their prior use means the payback period of these timbers has more than likely lapsed. Demolition of these products was by manual labour and the only added embodied energy was local transport.
